Tempo marking menerangkan bagaimana kecepatan suatu lagu harus dimainkan.

• adagio : slow
• allegro : lively
• allegretto : rather lively
• andante : at a walking pace
• andantino : at a walking pace (alternately faster or slower than andante)
• moderato : at a moderate speed
• largo : slow and stately
• larghetto : slow (less slow than largo)
• animato : animated
• a tempo : in time
• cantabile : in a singing style
• presto : very fast
• prestissimo : as fast as possible
• accelerando : gradually getting faster
• vivace : very lively
